Hello...

... I’m Matt...

I’m 45 (although, I’m sure I’m still only 22). Anyway, I have three beautiful children, two girls and one boy. I spent almost twenty years as a teacher and although I am also a qualified counsellor, my decision to do so was a gradual one.

For a long time, I felt as if I was simply going through the motions. Although nothing profoundly ‘bad’ was happening, I couldn’t quite shake the lurking feeling of unhappiness. Sometimes this feeling would decide to move in and stay for long periods of time, and yet, nothing ‘bad’ was happening. And so, I spent a long time feeling guilty for feeling unhappy and that whatever I did, I just wasn’t doing it right or good enough.

I decided that it was these negative feelings that were stopping me, not only from being the father that my children needed but also the one they deserved.

After a lot of work, I am now a qualified counsellor starting to build up my private practice. I use a range of Person-Centered and Humanistic approaches as well as Transactional Analysis and CBT. My aim is to work collaboratively with clients to find the approach that is best suited to their needs, as well as to promote the understanding that we don’t need permission to find life hard at times and that it’s okay to ask for some help.
